The idea for a clutch bag was born almost immediately, as soon as I saw the new color of Scarlet crystals in the presentation of the new Swarovski collection. It is not possible not to fall in love with it, and the scattered crystals reminded me of the pomegranate seeds.
In mythology, a pomegranate symbolizes immortality. In the religion of the ancient peoples of the East, Greece and Rome, it was valued as a symbol of fertility and the cyclical revival of nature. In Christian iconography garnet is one of the symbols of the resurrection.
What can be the opposite of this fruit?
In military affairs, the life-giving fruit manifested itself from a completely unexpected side, turning into an effective weapon of murder, bringing death, pain and annihilation. More precisely, not the pomegranate itself, but its warlike namesake, a grenade, very similar to this blessed fruit.
The word «grenade» is not just like the word «pomegranate», but is its direct descendant: it comes from the Spanish word «granada», which means a plant of pomegranates. The fact is that the first explosive grenades had a round shape and were stuffed with lead bullets, like grains, and the leaves of the fruit looked like a flame fluttering from a lit wick. Subsequently, the form of the combat hand-projectile changed, but the name remained the same.
So one and the same word began to have two completely different meanings. One is associated with life, immortality, rebirth, and the other with death, pain and annihilation.
