Лично меня после просмотра видео о новой коллекции кристаллов Swarovski, действительно, вдохновили два момента: во-первых, необычный и выразительный способ Селин Кусто донести до широкой аудитории проблему выживания племен Бразильской Амазонии через создание прекрасных кристаллов в содружестве с таким партнером как Swarovski ; во-вторых, то, что геометрические символы и фигуры татуировок аборигенов (крест, ромб и т.д.), которые послужили источником вдохновения для Селин Кусто, широко присутствуют и в других древних культурах, в том числе в русской культуре, например, в русских орнаментах и узорах, что несомненно говорит о имеющем место переплетении различных культур и о единстве их истоков.
Так у меня возникла идея создать украшение, в котором кристаллы коллекции «The Nature Of Us» будут вписаны в традиционный русский узор. Я уверена, что для многих станет сюрпризом, что перед ними именно традиционный русский узор, а значит, кто-то тоже узнает что-то новое…
В декоре чокера я использовала элементы русских тератологического и плетеного орнаментов. Использование «плетенки» в данном случае мне показалось очень уместным, так как она, с моей точки зрения, как нельзя лучше символизирует взаимное проникновение друг в друга различных культур и их последующую трансформацию. Уход от традиционной для русского узора симметрии показался мне оригинальным приемом. Также я постаралась сделать «плетенку» и фигуру птицы легкими, гибкими и мягкими, чтобы чокер было комфортно носить.
Two distinct concepts struck and inspired me after watching the video of the new collection of the Swarowski crystals. Firstly, it is the unique and eloquent style in which Celine Cousteau conveys the struggles of the Amazon tribes’ survival by means of creating the stunning crystals in collaboration with Swarowski. Additionally, the geometric shapes and patterns of the indigenous tattoos (crosses, rhombuses, etc.) that served as Celine Cousteau’s inspirations, widely exist in other ancient cultures, including Russia, and especially in Russian design patterns and ornamentations. This undoubtedly points to the intertwining of diverse cultures as well to the unity of their origins.
Thus the idea of creating a jewelry piece, in which the crystals from the “Nature of Us” collection would be incorporated into a traditional Russian pattern, was born. I have no doubt that many would be surprised to learn that they are witnessing a traditional Russian pattern and design, which means that some would be discovering something completely new to them.
I have used the elements of Russian teratological and braided patterns in the construction of my choker. The use of “braiding” seemed like the most logical and appropriate choice, as it is this type of design that symbolizes the mutual penetration of different cultures and their subsequent transformations. The departure from the symmetrical pattern of the traditional Russian design added a unique and original touch. I have made the braiding and the bird’s figure light, soft and flexible to maximize the comfort of those wearing the chocker.
Lastly, I would like to mention that this is my debut project, my first jewelry creation that is being submitted to a competition ever since I became fascinated with the art of jewelry-making a year ago. What is quite symbolic is that I attended my very first class and workshop at Greenbird. I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the entire Greenbird team for providing me with the opportunity to express myself and to engage in the creative process of constructing something unique with my own hands.
